The family remember Sr. Marie de Lourdes R.I.P.

Sr. Marie de Lourdes died peacefully in James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown on Nov. 12th 2008. A devoted believer in the rosary, it was a fitting farewell that loving family members and devoted members of the Cluny sisters, all echoing the rosary, surrounded her as she passed from this life.

This year Sr. Marie de Lourdes celebrated two marvellous milestones; her eightieth birthday in July and her Diamond Jubilee in August, celebrating 60 years of unquestioning faith. She entered the noviciate in the Gallen Priory, Ferbane at the age of 16. Thereafter, she spent some years in Mount Sackville, Killiney and Scotland, before returning to her beloved Ferbane where she spent the remainder of her time until the deterioration in her health brought her back again to Mount Sackville in October 2008.

The love and care Sr. Marie de Lourdes received from her carers and the sisters of Mount Sackville during her last few weeks were truly remarkable. Her funeral mass took place in Mount Sackville Chapel in Chapelizod on 14th November. It was attented by large numbers of her extended family, friends, neighbours and the St. Joseph of Cluny community. She was laid to rest in the adjoining Mount Sackville cemetry.

Sr. Marie de Lourde will always be remembered as a loving, kind and selfless person, whose positive attitude to life never wavered. Her light hearted spirit leaves everyone who knew her with so many happy memories; that big old smile and that hearty laugh will be cherished for ever.

May she rest in peace.
